Definition of target data structures and mapping
Changes to processes and functions necessitate adjustments to data and data structures. In parallel with solution drafting, data management realizes the required master data and movement data structures. This is the basis for the rebuilding of data and preparation for the target system. A deep understanding of data functions and meanings (semantics) in the existing environment and the planned environment is required in order to perform mapping between old and new data structure elements.

Preparation and structuring of data
Before new solutions can go live, data is either imported from existing systems or created in the target system.
A data management plan is drawn up and includes a definition of the required preparation activities as well as responsible agents from the project team, IT, and specialist areas, for all relevant data objects. The defined work progress is checked via regular project controlling.

Data test and transfer to target system
The structuring of the data in the target system has to occur on a test basis before the integration and final testing of the implementation phase, in order for the results to be verified in the final business process tests. Any necessary corrections have to occur before the final data transfer.
